FOREWORD ON COMPONENT TYPE CARS

THESE CARS CAN BE BUILT FOR THE TRACK OR FOR THE ROAD IF IT IS FOR THE SPANISH ROADS I CAN ONLY MAKE A FEW SUGGESTIONS.

These types of car are handbuilt in low volume for people who desire something different from the mainstream Eurobox this causes problems in Spain as only mass produced cars are recognised by the authorities i.e.ITV centres, where they need to access information about the vehicle from a central computer in order to be able to test the car ( similar to the English M.O.T)

I am not suggesting anyone breaks the law but this is how the system seems to operate.
If you buy the car in left hand drive it resolves a lot of the problems as the Spanish authorities believe that it is highly likely you will be involved in an accident trying to pilot a car with the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car.

If the car is tested in the UK fitted with English number plates has a current M.O.T and is insured and taxed then it is legal to drive in Spain the pain is once a year the car will have to go back to England for a new M.O.T and to be taxed (depends on how much you have the desire to own and drive a low volume hand built car) the upside is you will not have the huge import tax to pay.

Euro 4 legislation affecting the registration of Replica cars as NEW on Spanish number plates.

Because of new laws taking effect toward the end of 2007 it will be impossible to import a Cobra Replica into Spain and probably most of Europe. The new law is relating to the car passing EURO 4 emission tests, the costs of setting up and meeting these new regulations will be out of reach for most manufactures of replica cars.

Please note that I can source any make of kit car, be it a GT40 replica to a Beach Buggy, the only problem being that unless you personally know someone in the right place who can sort the paper work out it is almost impossible to bring a car into Spain and register it unless the original donor log book shows the car to be 25 years old in which case it becomes much easier as it can be imported as an historic car.
